Angel Locsin has become one of the many celebrities who has poken up about the rising cases of anti-Asian violence in the United States, posting a photo wearing a mask donning the words "Hate is a virus."
She addressed her message to her fellow Filipinos and to every person of Asian descent who has been "experiencing cowardly attacks and racial slurs."
"I may not be the one experiencing this, but I stand with you," the actress wrote on her social media pages last Thursday, April 1.
"Anti-Asian racism or any acts of hate against a human being is like a virus that can easily spread anywhere if not stopped," she went on. "So, no matter how frightening, stand, and speak up against this pointless hatred---instead of shrugging it off---because this will not go away on its own. Let's help each other."
Angel concluded the post by telling her fellow Filipinos abroad, who aim to provide a better future for their loved ones, to stay safe.
"Look out for each other, maybe try to learn self defense, report to proper authorities. Fighting hate with hate and violence will never stop this vicious cycle," she concluded, along with the hashtags #StopAsianHate and #FilipinosUnite
The Iba 'Yan host made her statement amidst the public outcry over the violent attack of a 65-year-old Filipino-American woman in the street of Times Square in New York City, United States.
The incident is the latest case in the alarming increase of anti-Asian hate and violence in the country, which had begun since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The man who assaulted the old lady has since been arrested.
