Bela Padilla was present at the press conference for her upcoming film Mañanita which is set to premiere in the 2019 Tokyo International Film Festival.
Under the direction of Paul Soriano, the film centers around a former military sniper (Padilla) who was discharged from active duty. After losing her job, she spends nights in bars getting drunk, until she gets a phone call about a mission that will change her life.
During the pocket press interview of the film, Bela was asked if she was going to venture into directing as she already is dabbling in the world of acting and screenwriting, as well.
“Actually, I was offered my first directorial job last year,” the actress-screenwriter revealed. “But, I wanted to focus on the soap I was doing. Feeling ko kasi kapag sobrang hati ’yong focus mo or ang dami mong gustong gawin, hindi siya magta-translate into your work.”
Bela added that she was offered the first directorial job while filming for the soap Mea Culpa: Sino Ang May Sala? yet had to turn it down because she believed she could not give her 100% to both if she accepted the former.
“When I work, I’ll only do one thing at a time,” Bela said. “So, I won’t write while I’m shooting a movie this heavy. I try to prioritize what’s more important to me at the moment.”
With work taking over her time, does Bela have time for love life?
“Wala na nga eh,” she said. “Hindi ko na nga naiisip na part pa pala ’yon ng buhay ko. I like what I’m doing right now. I think I’ve come to a point where I don’t even look for it anymore. Hindi na ako nagtatanong sa sarili ko na ‘Should I go out more?’ so, ’yun. Hindi ko na siya naiisip na may kulang ba sa life ko right now kasi I don’t feel like may kulang. I’m very happy.”
Mañanita is a co-production between Viva Films and Ten17P, the latter company owned by Paul Soriano, the director of the film. It is written by acclaimed screenwriter Lav Diaz and stars Bela Padilla and Ronnie Lazaro.
