It was Tuesday, October 8, when former GirlTrends member Dawn Chang appeared on It’s Showtime as a judge for the show’s “Sampu-Sample” dance contest segment.
When the dancer was giving her comments towards one contestant, comedian-host Vice Ganda could not help but joke about Dawn and the GT, It’s Showtime’s own girl-group Dawn was a part of.
“Ang galing sumayaw ni Dawn Chang, ‘noh? Kaya iniwan ’yong GirlTrends eh!” Vice said in jest. “O kung di ka umalis, ’di sana trending ka din. Sana inantay mo ’yong number na ’yon. Sayang!”
The dance number Vice was alluding to was the controversial dance number of GT to Sam Smith’s How Do You Sleep? wherein netizens bashed the girl-group for their lack of synchronization.
Dawn continued to comment on the contestant, saying “I can see the technique is there, gustong-gusto ko ’yun. Kasi ang pagsasayaw, hindi lang puro hataw, kailangan ng technique.”
Vice continued to tease Dawn and GT, saying the former was calling out the latter.
“O, GirlTrends, pinariringgan kayo,” Vice said. “Hanggang ngayon, hindi pa tapos si Dawn Chang.”
“Kasi ’pag performer ka, kailangan marami kang alam,” Dawn continued as part of her comment as a judge. “Meron kang forte, pero importante marami kang alam.”
Vice then requested Dawn if she can perform the dance steps to GT’s controversial number, which she successfully did.
“Ganoon lang kadali, bakit hindi pa nagawa ng GirlTrends ’yon?” Vice commented.
After the segment, Dawn appeared on the noontime show’s online segment Showtime Online where the hosts asked her about the comment she made during the “Sampu-Sampulan” segment while also answering Vice’s earlier joke about GT’s controversial number.
“Dapat kasi nag-ri-rehearse, ’yong eye for detail, dapat ganoon,” Dawn said during the online segment. “Ayokong mag-trending. I don’t want to trend for the wrong reasons.”
GT received loads of criticism with their aforementioned dance number that took place last August 14, 2019.
