Raymond Gutierrez was slammed by netizens after photos of him partying at a BGC restaurant went viral online. Did the Cayetanos of Taguig take a swipe at him in their respective statements?

Photos have circulated online of Raymond Gutierrez, who celebrated his birthday last January 21, throwing a party at a restaurant in the Bonifacio Global City (BGC) in Taguig.

The photo shows Raymond inside the crowded restaurant with his guests circling around him as they watched him blow his birthday cake.

The caption of the photo read: “Happy Birthday, @mond. Note: Everyone was PCR Tested!”

Another photo showed the entrance of the restaurant with a notice of closure from the Taguig City government.

Netizens chided the television personality and his guests for throwing a party amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, with some saying that it is unfair that the restaurant closed down but he has yet to face proper consequences.

Taguig City Mayor Lino Cayetano, in an official statement released last January 22, said that establishments in the city that put danger to the health and safety of its customers will receive proper consequences. He did not name either Raymond or the establishment. But the statement was released a day after Raymond’s birthday.

“Establishments in Taguig that endanger the health and safety of their customers and employees will be engaged immediately. Repeated violators will be closed down,” the statement read. "We will not allow a few irresponsible establishments to compromise our efforts in making Taguig a model community for living in the new normal.”

“We will strive to implement health and safety protocols so that businesses in Taguig can thrive,” it added.

In another statement, Taguig Representative Lani Cayetano said a negative test result is not an excuse to violate COVID-19 health protocols while urging influencers to be good examples to their followers. She also did not name anyone nor did she mention the name of the alleged violator establishment. But it seems to take a swipe on the post, which claimed “everyone was PCR-tested,” that went viral.

“A ‘negative’ test result is NOT a ticket to socialize without precautions and disregard minimum health protocols. A test result detects the virus at one point in time. It only means that COVID-19 IS UNDETECTED AT THE TIME AND PLACE YOU WERE SWABBED,

“To influencers, the present situation calls for you to set the right example and do the right thing for everyone’s safety. People look up to you and admire you. This responsibility should not be taken lightly. Now is the time to use your platform, do good, and perform your civic duty to society,

“Everyone is welcome to enjoy what the City of Taguig has to offer. You are welcome to visit our city to dine, shop, do business, but please do so responsibly. We have worked hard to earn our place as the City with the least number of active cases per 100,000 population in Metro Manila. We intend to keep it that way. Please do not let the efforts of our public servants and health workers go to waste.” she said.

I support the decision of our City to close down an establishment for violating IATF rules. We must strictly adhere to...
