Last Friday evening, May 29, the 11th series of #ExtendTheLove’s Actor’s Cue, a fundraising for displaced film workers, took place in a Facebook live stream. This time, actresses Dimples Romana, Maja Salvador, Maymay Entrata, and Kathryn Bernardo made appearances, being asked questions about acting in films and television series and how it made an impact in their lives and careers.

In one point of the live stream, Q&A moderator and film director Adolfo Alix, Jr. asked the four thespians the difficulties they faced as an actor. After Maja answered doing two consecutive revenge-drama series, Dimples replied how the Daniela Mondragon character of Kadenang Ginto was the most difficult character she had to portray in her acting career.

“Pinakanahirapan po ako ’yong Daniela [Mondragon],” she said of the iconic viral character of the afternoon drama series. “Hirap na hirap na hirap po talaga ako---pagpasok, paglabas, pagde-brief, pagpasok sa kanya, hirap na hirap po talaga ako.”

Dimples, then, admitted that she almost refused to do the role because she was fresh from portraying Gloria in the drama-fantasy series Bagani starring Liza Soberano and Enrique Gil and she wanted to find time with her family.

“In fact, noong unang binigay sa akin [’yong role], hindi ko pa sana gustong gawin kasi kakatapos ko lang po ng Bagani tapos inisip ko sana para makasama ko ’yong pamilya ko,” she went on. “Eh, iba ang gusto ni Lord, eh. So, sumunod naman ako at tignan mo naman. Minsan may mga daan talaga na pinaka-hindi mo pa ready gawin, ’yon pa ang pinaka-fulfilling at pinaka-generous, if I may say.”

It could be recalled that the Daniela Mondragon character became famous among viewers, especially after the scene where she was walking around clad in a red dress and suitcase in hand. It instantly became an Internet meme among netizens, placing her into different parts of the country and the globe.

Dimples added that the role in the afternoon drama series helped her earn and save a lot of money.

“Kasi si Daniela, talagang naka-ipon ako sa kanya,” she happily reported. “Kumbaga, kahit papano ay nakapundar ako sa kanya.”

However, she reiterated that she was a difficult character to do because, in real life, she is not an evil, angry woman, unlike Daniela.

“[H]indi ako gagalitin,” she pointed out. “Wala naman akong kaaway. Wala akong natataandaang kaaway. Wala akong grudge. Hindi ako marunong magharbor ng anger. It’s one of the few emotions na hirap na hirap po akong kuhanin.”

Dimples repeated Maja’s advice on doing fierce, angry roles wherein the costume and the make-up helps in immersing themselves into the character.

“Nakakatulong talaga kasi ’pag naka-Daniela na ko na face, nararamdaman ko na ‘Okay, ibang tao na siya.’ Ganun na,” she said.

“Tsaka super [...] alive na alive siya online,” Dimples added, talking about the virality of the character. “So, minsan nakikita ko, pati ’yong feed ng mga kaibigan ko, hiyang hiya ako kasi ’yong picture nung nakapula na maleta, nasa mga [feed] nila. Nahihiya ako…”

The actress then recalled her true goal in joining the acting industry, which is not to gain fame but to earn money for a good life with her family.

“Kaya ’pag nakakakita ako ng ganun, naiilang ako!” she talked of the #OhDani Internet memes. “Para akong natatawa sa sarili ko.”
