Originally shown at the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) for the 15th Cinemalaya Philippine Independent Film Festival, Edward makes its way to local theaters near you starting tomorrow, October 2.
Distributed by Viva Films and Outpost Visual Frontier, the film, directed by Thop Nazareno, follows a boy in his mid-teens named Edward (Louise Abuel) who was left by his older brother Renato (Manuel Chua) to tend to their sick father (Dido dela Paz) at a hard-pressed public hospital. The hospital became him and his friend Renz’s (Elijah Canlas) little playground during their stay there, despite people there living a life in limbo.
One day, a nurse named Daisy (Sarah Pacaliwagan-Brakensiek) asked Edward to tend to Agnes (Ella Cruz), a victim of an accident admitted with no watcher. As Edward looks over Agnes, his days began to perk up, despite his father’s condition remaining as-is
Nazareno explores another perspective of a young man in this coming-of-age film, the first one being Kiko Boksingero. It also explores the scenes of your usual public hospital in the Philippines. The movie bagged three awards in the abovementioned film festival, namely Best Supporting Actress for Ella Cruz, Best Production Design, and Special Jury Prize. Recently, it was graded A by the Cinema Evaluation Board.
