FERODINA, the dynamic and genre-fluid band, marks a new beginning with the release of their debut single "Tumitig Ka" under Ivory Music.
Known for their versatility and engaging sound, the band features Fender Dimalanta on vocals and guitar, bassist Steven Naguit, drummer Joaquin Rodrigo, and keyboardist-saxophonist Brian Feliciano. Their latest track, described as an "abangers anthem," symbolizes a fresh start for FERODINA.
FERODINA's origins are rooted in iconic TV show Eat Bulaga. Fender, Joaquin, and Brian were contestants and winners on the Music Hero contest, which showcased their talents. Following their victory, they became part of Eat Bulaga's house band, playing alongside notable members like Blaster Silonga and Zild of IV of Spades. The eventual dissolution of this house band led to the formation of FERODINA.
Reflecting on this, Brian Feliciano shared, "Disbanding the Music Hero band was a turning point that allowed us to form FERODINA." Fender Dimalanta added, "Even before the contract ended, we had already formed a bond through our music."
Joaquin Rodrigo, for his part recalled, "We were young and doing it for fun, even joining the competition on TV was out of pure enjoyment."
The lineup was completed when Fender brought in his long-time friend and bandmate Steven Naguit on bass.
"Fender and I had competed in band contests together, so joining FERODINA felt natural," Steven explained.
FERODINA's music is characterized by its free-flowing style that doesn’t lock in to just one genre which is kickstarted by their collaborative songwriting process. "I usually start with a draft of the song, and everyone contributes during recording," said Fender.
Steven added, "We don't limit ourselves to any genre. We play what sounds good to us and hopefully to our listeners."
Their versatility in sound and style is evident in their previous releases, from the pop-flavored "Muling Nakita Ka" to the heartfelt ballad "Ako'y Sa'yo Ikaw ay Akin," the dreamy "Samahan Mo Ako," and their alt-pop single "Hon."
But with "Tumitig Ka," FERODINA embraces modern alt-pop sounds. The song, written by Fender, is about "a guy waiting for a couple to break up so he can have a chance," making it an "abangers-anthem," according to Joaquin Rodrigo.
The release of “Tumitig Ka” also signals a reboot for FERODINA, whose members are excited about their future under Ivory Music.
Fender expressed, "We've faced ups and downs, but our passion keeps us going. We aim to break stereotypes and be an inspiration through relatable songs." Steven added, "Playing music is our way of communicating our passion, and everything else follows."
Joaquin affirmed, "Coming from a family of musicians, this is what we do."
Brian, summarizing their ethos, added, "We just have to be consistent and keep doing what we love."
"Tumitig Ka" by FERODINA is available on all major streaming platforms starting May 31, 2024, under the newly reconfigured Ivory Music label.
