Jinggoy said it was the doctors who made the recommendation for his father's oxygen improvement and for prevention of his respiratory system from being tired.
"Yesterday, my father’s condition suffered a setback as his pneumonia worsened. Because of this and the resulting increase in oxygen requirement, his doctors decided to place him on mechanical ventilation," he wrote on Tuesday, April 6.
He also asked for more prayers for his father's recovery.
It could be recalled that it was March 28 when the 83-year-old Estrada was rushed to the hospital and was confirmed to have contracted COVID-19.
He was moved to the intensive care unit (ICU) last April 4, yet his family said there was no need to put him on ventilator then.
Erap was President of the Philippines from 1998 to 2001. He was ousted from office after a series of protests on EDSA, which were held for five days in the middle of his trials for plunder charges. He was later pardoned by Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, his vice president at the time, who took over his seat.
He also became a two-term Manila mayor from 2013 to 2019. The latter year, he ran again for re-election but lost to current Manila Mayor Isko Moreno.
