Yesterday, October 30, Gab Valenciano took to Instagram to announce that he is discharged from the hospital after six days of confinement. He then proceeded to talk about mental health and why it should be addressed and understood.
"To understand mental health you must try to understand people on a different level, which is close to impossible as we are all made differently," he explained. "But that is what makes life so fragile, so vulnerable, beautiful even. The divergence, the fight, the battle and the will to continue on."
He also clarified that one does not need to be mentally ill to become a mental health advocate as all people are subject to mental health vulnerability.
"Your circle will help define the details of your path, so choose them wisely," he said.
Gab then gave support to people fighting their own battles with mental health and to the people who support them by giving them a thumbs up.
"I post stuff like this not for sympathy, but to show that choosing to fight is all we have, so might as well fight with everything we’ve got," he went on. "My heart also goes out to every single person who has supported me through this entire ordeal. Alive to fight another day.”
In a separate post, Gab expressed his appreciation for his mother Angeli and father Gary who remained by his side throughout his battle with his condition, calling them his "pillars of peace, love, and strength"
"Thank you Mama and Papa for always being there for me," he said. "I know it’s not easy having a son with my condition, but one call and you both are there. There are no words, really.”
He says he knows there is a lot to rebuild in his life and character but he remains grateful for his parents for always being there to guide him.
"The best parts of myself consist of your unconditional love. I love you both so very much," he told his parents. "I pray that one day I could be just like you to my children and that in the near future, it will be my turn to take care of you."
You are a strong man, Gab! Stay strong in fighting your battles!
