Yesterday, September 23, Gab Valenciano, who has opened up about his struggles with depression in recent months, chose to “look at the bigger picture” when a video reporting that he had passed away began circulating online.
On his personal Facebook account, the son of veteran singer-dancer Gary Valenciano posted a screenshot of the video that ranked first in the Philippine trending list, with the thumbnail saying “Paalam Gab Valenciano: 1988-2019”
“I could easily look at this and react negatively, but I choose to focus on the bigger picture. I am blessed to say that I no longer have thoughts about ending my life, instead, save as many as I can through these experiences. It says in the word that what the enemy uses for evil, God will use for good,” he wrote.
He added: “This may be fake news, but the mere fact that it is currently trending on the top spot means it is a real issue that thousands and even millions are going through, bringing to light the urgency of the matter. This will cause people to go on my social media platforms, hopefully see the original post I posted and be inspired and blessed by it. At the end of the day, I will always choose love over hate.”
Back in January 2019, Gab revealed he had overcome his “darkest most painful time” of his life when he opened up about his suicide attempts to numb him of the feelings of pain, disappointment, uncertainty, doubt, and fear.
Valenciano concluded his post on his death hoax by addressing the people who spread fake news about his death, addressing them with “may God bless you” and seeing that this might be their way of dealing with the pain they are feeling. He then opted to simply pray for them in whatever they are going through.
