Ian Veneracion and his daughter Deirdre “Dids” Veneracion shared a magical moment together when the latter came out as a lesbian to him.
The actor recounted Dids’ coming out story in the episode of Magandang Buhay, aired earlier today on ABS-CBN.
Ian said a teary-eyed Dids came to him one day while he was fixing his motorcycle to tell him a huge secret.
“Daddy, I have to tell you something,” The father of three recalled Dids saying to him. “I like girls.”
Ian lightened up the mood by answering in jest: “Me also. I like girls.”
Dids was confused by his response, then he told her that he already knew from the beginning about her sexuality while saying that he accepts her for who she is.
“Just don’t ever be apologetic about it, not even to me,” he told Dids. “You can be whoever you want it to be and I have full support.”
When Dids, who was 16 at the time, asked once again if he knew all this time, he answered once again in jest, saying: “Oo naman. Bata ka pa, ang macho mo na!”
Ian added that he wants his daughter to live a full life without any regrets.
“Nakakapanghinayang lang. Isa lang ang buhay natin, tapos kapag nabuhay ka, parang apologetic ka pa na nahihiya ka sa sarili mo, hindi mo mailabas ang pagkatao mo. Parang, what a waste of life,” the actor told the Magandang Buhay hosts.
He also shared that his wife Pam also accepted and fully supports Dids’ sexual orientation.
“I asked her ‘Paano kung nagka-boyfriend si Dids, okay lang? Paano kung nagka-girlfriend siya, okay lang?’ [at] sabi niya, kung saan siya masaya, masaya ako. Oh, diba? So, she has the full support of the whole family,” Ian said.
Dids is the only girl among Ian and Pam’s three children. She has two brothers named Duccio and Tristan Draco.
You are an inspiration, Dids! Continue being you!
