The dark coming-of-age flick Fan Girl, directed by Antoinette Jadaone, bagged tons of awards at the recently-concluded Gabi Ng Parangal of the 46th Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) last Sunday, December 27, winning 8 awards out of its 9 nominations.
The film about a young girl's obsession with her all-time favorite celebrity won Best Picture, while Jadaone clinched awards for Best Director and Best Screenplay. Lead stars Charlie Dizon and Paulo Avelino took home the awards for Best Actress and Best Actor, respectively.
Fan Girl made its first premiere internationally in the form of the Tokyo International Film Festival. It also competed at the Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival before its local release in the MMFF.
Following Fan Girl was the fantasy film Magikland which won 5 awards, including Best Visual Effects, Best Production Design, and Best Musical Score.
The Boy Foretold by the Stars, a coming-of-age romantic comedy about two high school boys who meet in a school retreat, won 3 awards, including the Gender Sensitivity Award and Second Best Picture.
