The Queen of Soul Jaya has already made us cry with her iconic, heartbreaking songs such as “Wala Na Bang Pag-Ibig” and “Dahil Tanging Ikaw.” Now, she is ready to make us cry anew through a different medium: acting, as she will star in an episode of Maalaala Mo Kaya (MMK). The good news was first reported by her management team, Cornerstone Entertainment.

Last October 23, the talent agency posted behind-the-scenes photos of the episode on Instagram. Jaya was seen acting alongside Ang Batang Poz star Awra Briguela. Details on when the episode will air and what role she will play have yet to be announced, with the latter only being described as “natatanging pagganap.”

However, in an episode of Umagang Kay Ganda aired the same date, host K Brosas, who is also one of Jaya’s closest friends, told her co-hosts that the Queen of Soul will play a butch lesbian in the episode.

This serves as Jaya’s acting comeback in the realm of drama. It could be recalled that the singer had a few acting stints in the GMA-7 network, where she acted in television series such as the soap opera Diva alongside Regine Velasquez-Alcasid and the second Filipino adaptation of the telenovela Marimar alongside Megan Young.

Jaya shifted networks in 2016 by moving to the ABS-CBN network, first appearing in It’s Showtime as the newest judge of the singing competition Tawag Ng Tanghalan. Since then, she has occasionally performed in the musical variety show ASAP and has appeared in Kapamilya shows such as Gandang Gabi Vice, Magandang Buhay, and I Can See Your Voice. Her upcoming role in MMK will mark her first acting stint in the Kapamilya network.

Good luck, Ms. Jaya! We cannot wait!
