The Cebu Chapter of the University of the Philippines Medical Alumni Society has been inviting Cebuano celebrities as well as those who became adopted children of Cebu by choosing to live there to give short video messages to remind their fellow Cebuanos about the protocols to be followed in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Society has so far shared video messages on its Instagram account from Cebuana stars Ellen Adarna and Vina Morales; as well as from John Lloyd Cruz, who established residence there to be near his son Elias Modesto (who reportedly lives with his mother Ellen); and Baron Geisler, who now also lives in Cebu with Cebuana wife wife Jamie and daughter Talitha Cumi.
John Lloyd, Baron, Vina, and Ellen all called for the fight to end to the COVID-19 crisis by reminding everybody to wash hands, wear face masks, observe social distancing, among others.
In the videos, they are all speaking in Cebuano as they are directly addresssing the residents of Cebu, which is called the hotspot of COVID-19 by President Rodrigo Duterte in his address to the nation on the eve of June 30.
The number of new COVID cases in Cebu rose to 107, adding up the total cases to 559y as of July 1. At least 169 people have died in the city because of the disease.
“Ako man guilty usahay. (Kahit ako guilty minsan). Pero sugod karon, wa nay rason. (Pero simula ngayon, wala nang rason). No more excuses,” John Lloyd said in his video message.
“Magsuot ho tayo ng face mask. Maghugas lagi ng kamay. Manatili po tayo sa ating mga balay (bahay). At kung kinakailangan po lumabas, sundin po ang social distancing. Naay paglaum. Kita ang paglaum. (There is hope. We are the hope).” he added.
On the other hand, Ellen reminded Cebuanos how to properly wear a face mask and how it should be washed and cleaned when used.
Vina, along with daughter Ceana, also did the same, delving into more details about wearing a mask.
Baron, on the other hand, was tasked to give a short message to remind Cebuanos to stay at home.
