In a guest appearance on Tim Yap's live stream last May 23, KC Concepcion revealed the reason behind her long-time hiatus in show business, which is being diagnosed with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). Know the full story below!

KC Concepcion has been absent from the silver and small screens for some time now, and it has been brought up when she did a guest appearance in the YouTube live stream of club owner and eventologist Tim Yap last Saturday, May 23.

It turns out that the actress-entrepreneur has battled with a medical condition that hindered her from doing movie and TV appearances.

“I’m super, super grateful for work. But, number one, I, actually, you know, want to be super open about this, because it’s also something I want to talk about in the future,” she told Yap. “So, I was diagnosed with PCOS (polycystic ovary syndrome) and that caused me to gain so much weight.”

KC went on saying how with the condition causing her to gain weight, she took time to look good and be fit, because that is what movie and television roles are required to offer.

“When I look good, I feel good and that’s what we serve [to] people on screen,” she said.

Apart from having PCOS, she also said evolving herself was another reason that she took time off.

“I think that’s something I learned during this quarantine,” she reflected. “You just need to allow yourself to evolve and to adjust and adapt [...] so that’s what I did during this time, as well.”

That is why KC ventured herself into the world of business and retail, saying she wanted to use her creativity in another way. That’s the reason why her jewelry line, Avec Moi, came to life which had higher demands than she expected.

“I’m almost a one-man team,” she said. “So, we really need to scale it up and see where that will go but I love doing jewelry,”

Her business is what urged her to study gemology at the Gemological Institute of America (GIA).

“That’s a creative outlet that I can have for the rest of my life, you know?” she said. “Those are the things I was able to do. I also put up a social enterprising closet that, by the way, we’re reviving very soon. Those are the things that gave me so much life.”

In the end, at present, KC will now accept movie and television projects if they come, saying she is now prepared because she has lost a lot of weight.

“I will say yes to projects when they come. I’m ready now,” she declared. “I’ve lost a lot of weight and, at the same time, I feel good about coming back and reconnecting with the fans.”

Yap then went back to her condition, asking how she healed from PCOS, a hormonal disorder that affects women’s reproductive health.

“I’m super healthy now, I eat so well, I take my supplements, I try to be as active as I can be. And, especially now in this situation, you want to make sure na healthy ka.”

It could be recalled that KC’s last television appearance was in Book 2 of the period drama series Ikaw Lamang back in 2014 where she starred alongside Kim Chiu and Coco Martin.

The daughter of Sharon Cuneta and Gabby Concepcion entered Philippine showbiz back in 2008, as a contract artist of ABS-CBN. Apart from the aforementioned series, she has also starred in the Filipino adaptation of the Korean drama series Lovers in Paris in 2009 with Piolo Pascual and Zanjoe Marudo and the melodrama Huwag Ka Lang Mawawala in 2013 with Judy Ann Santos and Sam Milby.

She also did hosting stints in the Kapamilya network, hosting talk shows The Buzz from 2010-2011 and Simply KC in 2010 and the singing competition The X Factor Philippines in 2012.

When it comes to film, she first appeared in the 2008 Star Cinema flick For The First Time with Richard Gutierrez as her leading man. Since then, she has appeared in four more films: When I Met U (2009), I’ll Be There (2010), Forever and a Day (2011), and Boy Golden: Shoot to Kill, the Arthur Porcuna Story (2013).
