Former actress Krista Ranillo was delighted that her paternal grandmother, Gloria Sevilla, was conferred the Natatanging Gawad by the Gawad Urian Award during its 42nd awarding ceremony held at the UP Theater in Quezon City last Tuesday, June 18.

Krista, to the unfamiliar, is the eldest child of actor Matt Ranillo III, who also resides in California now. She is married to businessman Niño Jefferson Lim and is now a mother of five.

Krista, who has relocated to Los Angeles after leaving showbiz in 2010, greeted her multi-awarded grandma on Instagram that same night when she was handed special Urian trophy. Krista thanked the members of award-giving body, called the Manunuri, for honoring her grandmother with a lifetime achievement award.

Krista wrote: “Thank you Gawad Urian for giving my Grandma a lifetime achievement award! She truly is a remarkable actress and so deserving of this! I love you Grandma and I’m so proud of you!! Wish I could be with you there! [heart].”

Upon accepting the prestigious recognition, the 87-year-old Queen of Visayan Movies delivered a lengthy speech that night and part of it, she dedicated in calling for help—from no less than the president, Rodrigo Duterte—for the Philippine movie industry and its workers.

Huwag natin itong hayaang mawala at makalimutan.”

Madam Sevilla also pointed out that the movie workers and actors need protection especially financial aid during emergencies. She noted that the case of veteran actor Eddie Garcia is one example. As reported, Eddie is still in critical condition in ICU because of an accident that took place while shooting a TV series.

Gloria even mentioned that she herself was caught in an accident while shooting before and encouraged everyone to take care of each other especially the elderly.

"Up to this time, I still have to request for a refund on my medical expenses and loss of work. Maybe if we file guidelines for filmmaking, siguro, hindi mangyari ang mga ito.

"Let us take care of each other. Maliit lang ang mundo na kinagagalawan natin. Magkapit bisig tayo, magtulungan tayo lalo na ang mga artistang may edad na. Tulungan po natin sila.”
