Not everyone in the showbiz industry has the guts to show the world their ‘imperfections’ because people expect them to appear at their best every single time. But Kapuso star Kyline Alcantara took a stand and defied those expectations in her recent Instagram post.
The Kapuso teen actress is one brave girl as she bares her insecurities and past struggles with acne via Instagram yesterday, October 7.
Kyline shared a series of photos revealing her bare face with evident pimple marks across her forehead, cheeks, and chin.
According to the Black Lipstick star, it all started with just one zit that she had back in March last year. Then it became two until she found herself losing count already.
In her lengthy Instagram post, Kyline admitted that she really lost her confidence when her acne was at its worst. She said her only “best friends” at that time were “foundations and concealers.” She also recalled how she was judged, bullied, and bashed for putting too much make-up during those days.
"I was judged, I was bashed and bullied for putting too much make-up (people telling me na ang kapal ng make-up mo pero puro ka pa din tigyawat) during that time but what they don’t know is make-up na lang yung kakampi ko noon.
"Concealers and foundations are my best friends because they cover my breakouts so I can come out and look more presentable.
"Caps and side hair are constant accessories, again, to cover my cheeks from my unwanted zits."
She often find herself crying before even facing a huge crowd or attending showbiz commitments because of the pressure she felt to always look her ‘best’ while she’s battling her acne.
"Imagine, people are always expecting you to be at your best, to look perfect, to look like the polished girl that they always see in TV and magazines, but you can't even look at yourself in the mirror.”
"There were times before na habang nag-aayos ako for showbiz commitment na bigla na lang ako naiiyak because at the back of my head 'how am I gonna face them?.'”
Back then, Kyline also tried several different skin-care routines which never helped her to get rid of her unwanted zits until she finally consulted a specialist, who told her that she has a sensitive skin and that she needed to drop those popular skin-care routines posted online.
"She told me na less is more. She told me na factor kung bakit ako nagkaroon ng breakouts were: puberty that affects my hormones and I have a very sensitive skin na nagrereact differently from the products that I used based dun sa mga napapanood ko na skin-care routines sa YouTube.”
Kyline shared her past struggles with acne to remind people that it’s totally okay and normal to have “breakouts, excess weight, unruly hair, uneven skin, bucky teeth and stretch marks.”
"Don’t stress yourself over something to be perfect because it will not come. Accept your uniqueness and use it to your own advantage and represent yourself proudly thru it."
She added, “It’s okay to upgrade and to improve yourself but it’s very important na hindi dapat mawala yung sarili mo in the process of it. Don’t let the norm and society dictate what you should feel and look. Be your own unique you. Love the imperfectly perfect you.
"Have confidence and love yourself! For our Creator loves you! Yes, you, the unique you."
After posting and opening up about her skin problem journey, Kyline received an overwhelming amount of support and love from her celebrity friends and followers.
She then thanked all of them on a separate post with photos showcasing her acne-free face while wearing a huge smile.
She wrote on her caption, “My skin is fine now. I surpassed the breakout stage, and if I can syempre ikaw din! Salamat sa lahat ng messages ninyo nakakataba ng puso. Mahal ko din kayong lahat. ❤️🌻.”
