Marjorie Barretto explains daughter Julia’s identical jersey number with Gerald Anderson; Gerald’s mom Vangie lashed out on Bea
Marjorie Barretto quickly took to Instagram to clarify daughter Julia Barretto’s jersey number which she sported, same as actor Gerald Anderson, during the All-Star Games of ABS-CBN’s Star Magic last Sunday, August 25 at the Araneta Coliseum.
Netizens were quick to notice that Julia and Gerald have chosen identical jersey numbers at this year’s All-Star Games.
But Marjorie, even before the accidental twinning blew up, felt she had to explain it before some people start giving maliciously meaning to her daughter’s jersey number.
Case in point, when Marjorie posted a short clip on IG, where she appeared supporting Julia as the captain of her volleyball team, one Netizen commented on her post, saying, “NUMBER 3 rin si @andersongeraldjr !!❤️.”
Marjorie didn’t let it slide as she responded in the comment section. She write: “Let me correct this before the story gets big and out of hand again. Number 3 has always been Julia’s jersey number since her high school volleyball varsity days. No special meaning. ❤️.”
It can be recalled that Julia and Gerald were linked together and faced a huge controversy after photos of them which was taken during Rayver Cruz’s birthday surfaced the internet last July.
The said issue got bigger after actress Bea Alonzo, the latter’s ex-girlfriend, posted a cryptic message seemingly hinting an infidelity in her relationship.
Gerald was mocked while Julia was accused of being a third party and they both received wide criticisms from the Netizens.
And even if Bea, Gerald and Julia already released their respective public statements addressing the issue, the controversy is still at the back of the Netizens minds.
Incidentally, just like Marjorie, who continuously defends her daughter amidst the controversy, Gerald’s mom, Vangie Opsima, recently voiced out her sentiments as well.
In an interview with TV Patrol South Central Mindanao, the clip of which immediately went viral, Mommy Vangie directly addressed Bea and said: “Hindi ka niya binastos kailanman. Kahit hindi niya alam na nag-a-argue kami ni Gerald laban sa 'yo dahil ayaw nga kita para sa kanya. Ngayon, ganito na lang gawain mo sa kanya, binabasura mo ang bata? Lagi mong pinapatamaan ang anak ko. Ano na ba kasama si Gerald?”
The Kapamilya actor’s mom also vent out her hurt feelings on Bea’s makeup artist, Varda Atienza, “Isa pa hindi ko nagugustuhan, pati make-up artist mo, magbitaw ng salita laban sa anak ko. Hindi naman ako puwedeng manahimik sa mga lumalabas na isyu, lalo na si Bea na humaharap talaga sa TV.”
In that same interview, Mommy Vangie also addressed Julia directly and advised her to not fall for her son, who is eight years older than her. She said: “Hindi ko nga sinasabi na ayaw kita. No. Ang akin lang, advice ko lang sa 'yo, please, ayaw ko kasi may edad na rin Gerald sa 'yo. Hindi rin kayo magtagal dahil alam ko nasa industriya ka rin.”
