Viva Records’ new releases for this weekend is a merry, interesting mix of inspirational pieces, joyful love songs, and sophisticated club music.
Featured artists range from heavyweights to newbies such as Martin Nievera, Janine Tenoso, ADIE x Janine Berdin, new rap group X -BATASAN, Gabo Gatdula, Mikee Misalucha, Shanne Dandan, and CLAUDIA [Barretto].
And they’re all worth a listen.
“Smile Again” by Martin Nievera
Premier balladeer and OPM icon Martin Nievera returns with his first original song, “Smile Again,” since returning to his original music label, Vicor.
The meaningful tune, says Martin, was inspired by everyone and everything that put a smile on his face during the pandemic. These include his family, friends, and his pets.
These inspirations made him want to pen a piano-decked new song akin to the Charlie Chaplin classic, “Smile.”
With his long-time collaborator Homer Flores helping him out, “Smile Again” was born. And it’s now ready to give one and all the positive feels we all need right now.
“Laro” by Janine Teñoso
After her successes with her fan-fave album “Mga Kwento Sa Silid” and the hit single “Pelikula,” Janine Teñoso returns with a new single called “LARO.” This new mid-tempo original finds the acoustic guitar-toting singer-songwriter returning to the band setting reminiscent of her time during the “‘Di Na Muli” hit days.
“LARO,” says Janine, is about the hard-to-read romantic innuendos that usually appear at the start of a courtship.
“Ano kaya’ng pumapagitan sa ating dalawa?” is one line that everyone can definitely relate to and only Janine can ask this question better by putting it into a song.
“Trigger” by Claudia
Claudia returns with a club-ready bop titled “Trigger.” This vibe-induced, head-bobbing new original is the first single for Claudia after her collaboration track “Everything.”
Claudia is currently on her ambient, lo-fi R&B phase and each release establishes Claudia as a tastemaker for the genre. And over the course of a handful of singles since signing up with Viva Records, Claudia only adds more to her cool club chick mystique.
“HALIKANA” by XBatasan
Xbatasan makes it an old school rap affair with this sing-and-rap original, “HALIKANA.” Xbatasan—composed of Cyresse Convocar, Efren Diesta, Rhod Arbie Aban, Raymart Sadang, Gilbert Canales, Rex Aeron Restum and Jomar Cabaña—is the rhyming crew that’s off to a good start with this hook and verse number that’s about having dreams and striving for it to the best of one’s capability.
“Gabay” by Mikee Misalucha
Singer-songwriter Mikee Misalucha proves that she’s one versatile music artist through her latest single, “Gabay.”
Previously dropping R&B inflected ballads, upbeat bops, and moody tunes, Mikee goes for inspirational with “Gabay,” which she says she wrote to “dedicate to God.”
“It describes my relationship with Him and how he guides me all throughout my life regardless of my imperfections and weaknesses,” she added.
Written at the height of the pandemic, Mikee Misalucha’s “Gabay” is deliberately calming, hopeful, and sentimental and is stylistically created with elements of pop, ballad, electronic and worship.
The enigmatic voice of Shanne Dandan graced the new Vivamax movie, Doblado. Shanne’s sonically distinct voice can be heard singing her own original tune, “Sandali Lang,” which becomes the perfect mood accompaniment for this GB Sampedro erotic thriller about a lady who leads a double life–a college student by day and high-class prostitute by night.
Doblado stars Denise Esteban, Mark Anthony Fernandez, Josef Elizalde, Katrina Dovey and Sheree Bautista.
“’Di Ko Man Masabi” by Gabo Gatdula
Singer-songwriter Gabo Gatdula’s new song, “‘Di Ko Man Masasabi,” is about those unspoken words we’re all bottling inside for someone whose affection we’re craving.
And what better way for a songwriter to say the unspoken than through songs.
Gabo’s free-flowing new song is a fine listen and proves that he is living up to his potential as one of OC Records’ most promising acts.
“MAHIKA” by Adie featuring Janine Berdin
Adie’s new song “Mahika” perfectly captures the intoxicating, inexplicable, magical feeling of falling in love.
Take these lines: “Anong salamakang meron ka? Binabalot ka ng mahika...Ano’ng salamangkang meron ka, ako’y nabihag mo na?”
With Janine Berdin’s lovely vocals blending in with Adie’s distinct falsettos, “Mahika” proves to be one LSS-inducing song that we can’t wait to hear as an OST to one beautiful love story movie.
