But he accepted the challenge nonetheless.
“At first, when Albert [Andrada] and Jonas [Gaffud] messaged me that I’ll be the one doing the gown for Rabiya I was so flattered and at the same time I was thinking, ‘Kaya ko kaya ‘to?’” lahad ni Furne sa online interview.
“Because I’m not a pageant designer,” pag-amin n’ya. “I’m more avant-garde. I’m more into creative thinking and I want it to be different.
“With this pageantry, there’s a mold,” he went on. “There’s like a cut, a mold that should show the candidates’ body, their beauty. It should be simple. It’s not what I’m doing. But because of this, it’s like a challenge for me. Parang na-challenge ako.”
“That’s why Josh [Yugen] told me, ‘How about try it because it’s a new challenge for you. It’s a new platform.’ So ‘yon. And then I took the invitation of Albert and Jonas.”
(Josh Yugen is the head of Yugen PR Dubai.)
“Her personality. Like, she’s very fiery, very festive,” sagot ng Cebuano designer. “‘Yon. Kino-consider ko, ‘yong qualities n’ya… It’s like a mix of everything. Parang kailangan simple but different. Hindi kailangang generic.”
“Because I’m a designer na who always think different parang ayaw ko ‘yong masyadong generic,” pagpapatuloy niya. “At least nandoon pa rin ‘yong DNA ng brand ko, nandoon pa rin ‘yong aesthetics ko as a designer and then nilagyan ko lang ano… I mixed [with] Rabiya’s personality. Like, she’s very fiery. ‘Yon bang sinasabi nilang hala-bira walk [niya] or something. So, inano ko ‘yan, minerge ko to create that gown.”
“Ano siguro… Parang ang gown is like energy. May energy s’ya,” simpleng patikim ni Furne. “And then, [it’s] different, a bit different. Experimental, I think…
“Hindi s’ya generic na gown. That’s the challenge. How to make a gown that’s very Amato [and] at the same time with Rabiya’s personality.”
“For me, I’m so flattered to begin with na they invited me to do her gown,” aniya. “‘Yon ang first. It’s very flattering because there’s a lot of designers. And not just designers, talented designers especially sa pageantry. But they considered me to do a different take for Rabiya.
“So for me, kailangan nila… I think they have to support Rabiya to get the fifth crown.”
“Maybe. I think,” nakangiting sagot ni Furne.
