“Itong dream project na ito sinusubukan na namin even before the pandemic Pero ayon, finally eto nagkatotoo na ’yong aming panaginip. This is now reality so we’re very, very excited.”
Iyan ang panimulang k’wento ni Atty. Annette Gozon-Valdes, isa sa tatlong producers ng Alden Richards-Bea Alonzo movie nang ekslusibong makapanayam ng pikapika.ph during the contract signing among the producers last March 2 sa Quezon City.
Atty.
And when they acquired it, ibinangko muna until they found the right actors. At sina Alden at Bea nga yon.
“We have to wait to the right actors to be available,” lahad ni Viva Communications, Inc. President and COO Vincent del Rosario.
“It’s a parang premium na material... sourced originally from Japan, remade in several countries and maraming naghabol sa material para magawan ng Filipino version. We’re lucky [in Viva] because of [the success of] Miracle [in Cell No.7] and Miss Granny, the [Japanese] producers thought we are more than capable of producing the Filipino version.
“Mahirap to imagine na another combination doing the film. I think sila [Alden and Bea] ’yong perfect for the two roles. Inantay talaga, inantay.”
“Napakaganda kasi ng material and we want to give this movie an international flavor talaga lalo na we are having both Alden and Bea together in it. So we feel that this project is perfect talaga for the both of them. Even sa galing nila umarte.
“We’re very, very lucky—for GMA and APT—to be partners with Viva because Viva really knows what they’re doing. So, in terms of running the actual production and all of that we have all faith with Viva. And with all due respect with Viva, everything they pass through us. Lahat tinatanong sa amin ni Annette for approval and consultation. Stuff like that.
So, ang sarap kasi it’s really a true partnership.”
“You would think with these three companies na parang there would be clashes in terms of creatives? Wala!” patuloy ni Direk Mike. “Super smooth.’Yon nga ’yong pinag-uusapan namin, for a collaboration among three production companies, this is so smooth. Ang dali lahat, you know?
“And hindi ganu’n during the pandemic, e. Everything, every step is so much harder, every collaboration, every project, every shoot is so hard... ito, for some reason, everything just came together so easily. Sabi ko, baka tadhana na ito. Baka this is destiny already. Kasi ang smooth, e, especially at a time when nothing is easy?
“Eto medyo parang ano lang pieces fell into place, Alden, Bea, the schedule, the story, scripting, itong preparing for the shoot, the protocols...parang everything was falling into place.”
According pa rin kay Direk Mike, napakarami nilang na-i-turn down na mga project offers kay Alden. But when the Alden-Bea pitch came in, no-brainer daw na “Yes” agad ang kanilang sinagot.
“We handle Alden’s movie projects,” patuloy ni Direk Mike. “So you can imagine ilan ang dumarating sa aming mga proposals and pitches specifically for Alden. And unfortunately, we have to turn a lot of them down because meron talagang specific plan si Alden and GMA in terms of his imagining, in terms of his career path. And si Alden kasi is very, very specific sa mga movies at roles na ginagawa niya.
“So, we have to filter talaga. And of course, when this came to us, wala, it’s a no-brainer. And to be partners with Viva and again with GMA... so we didn’t take much thought for us. Sa dami nu’ng mga projects and proposal that we have to turn down every year for Alden, this was one na medyo sure ball agad siya nu’ng makita namin ’yong proposal.”
“Actually kasi ako magkaroon ako ng konting advantage because I have been talking already to Bea last year about something else actually,” balik-tanaw ni Direk Mike. “Tapos, they had done the commercial... so they did the [shampoo] commercial in Thailand I believe.
“And then, I was also talking to Alden about a completely different project. So, I knew individually na gusto nila to work with each other pero hindi pa napag-uusapan officially. Kasi, of course, you would have to talk to the managers, you would have to talk to the studios...
“So, meron akong edge kasi alam ko Bea wants to work with Alden already and Alden wants to work with Bea pero wala pang solid opportunity. Then, ’yon pieces started falling into place and when we found out, ‘Ah kaya.’ Merong window of opportunity.
“I think ano ngayon ang trend it’s really collaboration with everyone in showbiz,” say ni Miss Gozon. So now, we are all open to really joining forces and parang we’re all a big, big family. Wala na ’yong mga super competition. We all want to support each other and really support the movie industry.”
“Nu’ng kinausap nila ako, Number one s’yempre when I found out it was Alden and Bea doing a movie, sabi ko game agad diba? Sabi ko, I was answering for the company already and for my father [Tony Tuviera]. Sabi ko, Number one, napakalaking chance to be part of a project like this. And para sa mga audiences, I’m sure people want to see Alden & Bea together.
“But also to be with partnering with medyo... parang and tingin yata sa amin next generation of producers diba? ’Yong mga anak naman... So, very, very excited about that also. Not just the movie itself but kung sino ’yong magiging partners ko.”
“Kasi I think it’s a sign that the industry needs more partnerships like this para we can offer better value. In terms of the movies that we produce and the contents that we create, maganda na nakapagsama kami for this project.
“Kami naman ng GMA we’ve partnered na in I think about ten or so movies in the past. So, parang ano rin, reunion.”
“We will hold out until such a time na nag- normalize na ’yong cinema operations, pagku-kumpirma ni Boss Vincent. “Kasi the movie is meant to be seen in a big screen rather than small screen.
“So, we’re making the film as a theatrical experience pero s’yempre depende naman yan kung ano ’yong safety level later on pag natapos na. May post production pa naman yan so titingnan namin. Of course, safety comes first for the audience. Pero rest assured na we are making the movie as a big theatrical experience talaga.”
Sinisiguro ni Direk Mike, in behalf of the two producers, na worth it ang gagastahin ng manonood kapag pina-unlakan nila ang imbitasyon nina Alden at Bea na panoorin ang kanilang first screen tandem.
“Whatever we make, we have to believe in. If you’re inviting people to go to theatre—s’yempre pag pinapayagan na, pag bukas na—or spend extra money to watch streaming or online or something, it better be worth it. Especially now, every peso is so hard to earn, diba?
“So, were making sure kung ano man ’yong produktong magagawa namin it would be worth your money to watch it.”
