When she was young, actress Sue Ramirez always had a knack for singing, religiously joining singing contests in school while belting out Celine Dion hits on the karaoke on the side.

However, it was in 2010 when she attempted to do the act professionally, originally auditioning for Star Magic as a singer. Despite her best efforts, she was given acting gigs instead, so she had to set her singing talent aside.

Now, she returns to her number one passion through the concert Sue Ramirez is Rock Chic where she held a press conference last June 26 at the Alta by Relik restaurant in San Juan, Metro Manila. The concert will be directed by Frank Lloyd Mamaril.

This is the actress-singer’s first major solo concert, previously performing in the 4 of A Kind concert with fellow actresses Loisa Andalio, Maris Racal, and Kristel Fulgar.

“Hindi ko talaga alam kung kaya ko mag-concert [mag-isa],” Sue narrated. “Pero, to give me this chance, hindi ako makapaniwala talaga. Noong nalaman ko, medyo hesitant ako. Honestly speaking, hesitant talaga ako i-accept. Gusto ko, pero I don’t believe in myself that much noong panahon na ‘yun.”

It was the comforting words of Sue’s handler who said “I believe in you, Sue. Kaya mo ’to.” that made her accept the offer of performing in her first major solo concert.

“All you need is that one push. Sabi nga ni Lady Gaga, all you need is that one person to make you believe and you start to believe in yourself too,” Sue told the press. “So, that’s what happened so here we are now.”

It was concert director Frank Lloyd Mamaril who saw the potential Sue had as an artist. While working with her in the 4 of A Kind concert. He revealed that it was the actress’ performance of Imagine by John Lennon that made him consider Sue as a major solo artist.

“‘Yong matapos siyang kumanta, eto ’yong concert na ipo-produce ko next year.” Direk Frank said. “Itong batang ’to, she has proven herself in the silver screen and on TV already. She needs a platform to prove herself as a singer.”

And, indeed, this year will be the time Sue will show how passionate she is in the world of music. Sue Ramirez is Rock Chic will take place at the Music Museum on July 19 at 8PM.
