MayWard fans may be still celebrating because their favorite ABS-CBN loveteam of Maymay Entrata and Edward Barber are presently hosting the global singing competition Star Hunt: The Global Showdown via the Kumu app.
But here comes another reason to celebrate!
The Kapamilya multimedia artists Maymay and Edward are set to star in the upcoming episode of iconic drama anthology Maalaala Mo Kaya, more popularly known as MMK.
The loveteam will give life to the viral love story of Maxine Blanco (Max) and Gab Sta. Ana, which was first featured in magazine show Rated K last March.
As of this writing, the Rated K segment titled “Live Life to the Max” featuring the said love story of Maxine and Gab have already amassed more than 4.3 million views on YouTube.
In that Rated K segment, Gab recalled how he and his kikay and high-spirited girlfriend Max first met in high school, how he courted her, and how they stayed together as boyfriend and girlfriend until college.
Their love story endured several challenges, including the biggest one: when Maxine was diagnosed with bone cancer. After losing her left leg, Max still managed to go back to school to pursue her dream of being a lawyer someday.
Despite her optimistic, Max’s body betrayed her. And Gab stayed by her side until she succomned to death.
During the short interview after the Star Hunt: The Global Showdown press conference at the ELJ Building on November 6, the MayWard shared what they felt upon learning they will portray the real-life characters of Max and Gab.
“Sobrang excited po kami,” said Maymay of their initial reaction. “Hindi namin in-expcet na sa amin ibibigay. Kasi po no’ng nakita ko po siya sa Rated K, trending po kasi siya sa YouTube, talagang pinanood ko.”
“Grabe ’yong iyak ko,” Maymay went on. “Blessed kami (to portray them) kasi nagandahan ako sa story nila.”
The actress from Camiguin, who rose to stardom through the reality show Pinoy Big Brother, said she found connection to Max.
“Hindi s’ya ’yong typical na may cancer [na] nag-iiba ng ugali. S’ya ’yong tao na fighter. Kikay. Positive. Kaya, uy, parang swak kami. ’Yong personality n’ya. Pero mas hinangaan ko s’ya," Maymay shared.
Edward added that the episode of MMK that they are starring in is different from other acting projects that he and Maymay did in the past.
“It's different when you're portraying a character that's alive and real,” the young actor said. “When you meet them, when you shake their hands, and you talk to them and you hear their voice, you how they move—iba. And can you imagine what this guy went through as well as the families involved. It's different. It's real. Kaya iba ’yong MMK sa kahit anong project na ginawa namin.”
And what did they learn from the story of Max and Gab?
“Just like Max, [her family], positive pa rin sila. It’s inspirational, the way they hold each other. I mean, a lot of us take our families for granted. Kaya mahirap kung minsan nakikita mo...families that are really relishing and savoring every moment that they have with each other, inspirational talaga ’yon.”
Maymay, who was just beside Edward, for her part said: “Kung ano’ng gusto mong gawin, go ka lang kasi hindi mo naman alam kung kelan ka mawawala. Ayon, live life to the fullest. Live life to the max!”
Edward added: “It's a big a honor to portray the lives of these people. Most especially, Max's. So, hopefully this is for them. This is for her. This is for the families. Our only wish is that we can play the characters as they really were.”
MMK has yet to announce the airing date of the MayWard episode, but Maymay assures: “Basta ngayong November po s’ya.”
We’re sure you guys can’t wait.
