There’s certainly life after McLisse for McCoy de Leon

McCoy plays the streetsmart and upfront Kali in the D’ Ninang; while Kisses portrays Mikhai, the poised long-lost daughter of Ai Ai’s petty thief character.

McCoy plays the streetsmart and upfront Kali in the D’ Ninang; while Kisses portrays Mikhai, the poised long-lost daughter of Ai Ai’s petty thief character.

After the demise of his reel-and-real McLisse loveteam with Elisse Joson, young looker McCoy de Leon is resurrected as a freelance actor who’s ready to tackle any role and with any co-star, big or not.

But the universe seems to have a grand plan for him.

After bagging a role alongside the Diamond Star Maricel Soriano in Regal Films’s horror flick The Heiress late last year, McCoy is now in the middle of promoting another Regal offering, D’Ninang, this time with Comedy Concert Queen Ai-Ai delas Alas.

Ang sarap ng ganitong blessings from the Lord.”

As for ka-loveteam, in this movie at least, he’s paired with the charming Kisses Delavin, who coincidentally, is also rising from the ashes of the DonKiss tandem with Donny Pangilinan. McCoy says one of the major reasons why he accepted his role in the comedy film D’Ninang is because of Kisses.

Magkaibigan na po kami noon pa," explains McCoy referring to the closeness they developed from their stint as housemates inside Bahay ni Kuya during the Pinoy Big Brother Teen Edition some four years ago.

On the set, he says this closeness made their already fun work every lighter and easier. “Confident kami kasi sa isa't-isa. Hindi na nagka-kapaan. Guided kami ni Direk G.B. [Sampedro].

But he is quick to add that, “pero dapat may mapakitang kilig pakonti-konti.”

He says Kisses and him thoroughly discussed how they’re going to make the “kilig” happen.

And if the movie’s main star is to be their judge, they have succeeded in their efforts.

"Bagay sila tingnan kase,” Ai-Ai told us in a separate interview.

But McCoy says his tandem with Kisses may just be a one-shot deal, which he doesn’t mind at all. In fact, he likes being a “freelancer” more. He says being so is not as limiting compared to having a loveteam partner.
