Known for his booming theater voice and elegant, well-groomed persona, actor Tony Mabesa had passed away last night, October 5, at the age of 84.
His passing was announced on Facebook by playwright Floy Quintos, who said Mabesa had "joined his creator at 10:20" in the evening and was surrounded by family and friends.
"Details of the wake will be announced tomorrow," Quintos wrote. "We thank you for your prayers. We hope you can respect the family's wish for privacy at this time."
In film, the founding artistic director of Dulaang University of the Philippines (UP) was last seen in the 2018 LGBT-themed family drama Rainbow's Sunset alongside Gloria Romero and the late Eddie Garcia, where he won as Best Supporting Actor in the 2018 Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) Awards.
In public, he was last seen on September 1 at the Sine Sandaan event held at the New Frontier Theater in Cubao.
