Comedian-host Vice Ganda took to Instagram to air out his opinions on Senator Tito Sotto’s opposition of the Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity, and Expression Equality (SOGIE) Bill.
Yesterday, September 4, the Senate President was being interviewed about the said bill just as it was being deliberated by the Senate committee on women. Sotto did not mince words on his thoughts regarding the bill, which he argued that a man will never be a woman.
“If you are a man, you will never be a woman, no matter what you do, because you cannot produce,” Sotto said in an interview. “You cannot give birth, you do not have ovaries. You will never be a woman. So, this, to me, the SOGIE bill is a bill against women’s rights.”
A day later, Vice Ganda aired out his frustrations towards Sotto’s statements on Instagram, saying that being a woman should not only be based on having ovaries or a uterus and having the ability to bear a child.
The It’s Showtime host went on listing down more questions for the Eat Bulaga! host, who also happens to be a lawmaker.
Vice then pointed out how low the senator sees women, while, at the same time, underestimating the concept of transgender people.
“Sinubukan ninyong maliitin ang konsepto ng pagiging TRANSGENDER sa paraang tinapakan nyo rin ang dignidad ng mga tinatawag nyong TOTOONG BABAE.” the comedian-host went on.
Vice concluded his statement by saying that Sotto’s reason for opposition is unfair while stating that there are people who pretend to be feminists to hide their misogyny.
He then received mixed reactions from netizens. While some supported his opinion, some sided with Sotto’s opposition.
