Our This is Showbiz host Butch Francisco was able to sit down and reminisce with Sid Lucero of the ultra-talented and revered Eigenmann clan.
Kung aktingan ang pag-uusapan, wala ka naman talagang itutulak o kakabigin sa pamilyang ito.
And through Sid, we tried knowing more about the members of this illustrious family by asking trivia questions such as who’s the pinaka-makulit, pika-mayaman, pinaka-matampuhin, pinaka-topakin and such.
No filter namang sinagot ni Sid lahat which made each and every one of the Eigenmanns more endearing and reachable.
At lahat yan malalaman n’yo once you view our full interview.
But of course, maraming serious topic including the Eigenmann’s cinematic bravery in terms of showing skins and saying yes to daring intimate scenes. The elder Eigenmanns—Mark, Cherie, and Michael—have their fair share of those. And the generation nilang magpi-pinsan, siya—si Sid—ang sabihin na nating pinaka-walang keber pag dating sa nudity.
At mas matapang nga daw sila ngayon, kumpara sa mga parents nila. Nag-diskusyon nga daw sila ng Tito Michael niya about it. Dati daw, noong panahon nila, establishing lang ang mga intimate scenes tapos ay cut to shoots na ng nga buwan o tumutulong gripo.
[The question came about dahil fresh pa si Butch sa panonood ng Virgin Forest, where Sid had quite a few nude scenes.]
“During my time, there’s Cinemalaya na and other indie film festivals and they’re really pushing it. Realism was the thing,” pag-a-analyze niya. “And to me, that’s what film is, it could be a caricature of life or you’re actually taking a photograph of it and making it as realistic as possible.”
In his case, lumaki lang daw siya talagang malawak ang pang-unawa sa art.
“I’ve always been exposed to art books, plus my favorite book in the encyclopedia is the biology book. I think when I grew up, nudity was like nothing. My mom was a model. She would wear clothes on the ramp na walang underwear and it was very free flowing...so it [nudity] was never introduced to me as a sensual thing. It was beauty in its purest form. The less clothes you have...it was just appreciating a human form. I think that is why we don’t care.”
Moreover, as an artist, he has a lot of questions regarding censorship.
“Nananiniwala kami na—I’m speaking for everybody—that we’re in a weird stage now of what’s being censored and what should not be censored...We’ll censor everything in movies, but [nude] statues in the middle of the road or in a hotel room are fine. If you depict a girl looking at herself in the mirror and she’s looking at where her breast was once was, that’s considered one-breast exposure...that’s strange...that’s not even sexual. It’s a woman mourning the loss of her womanhood, di ba? This actually happened.”
Moreover, he adds: “I really don’t believe that penis means sex. I really don’t believe that capturing sex and showing it onscreen necessarily has to be sensual. Like for example, this movie [Virgin Forest], only one scene in the whole movie was consensual...the rest was non-consensual. It was prostitution, it was rape. And if people get turned on by that, then there’s something wrong.”
[Direk Dante Mendoza indeed made an interesting juxtaposition ng dalawang klase ng exploitation sa Virgin Forest, the rape of women and the rape of the environment. It’s the current No. 1 movie on Vivamax now. Be sure to catch it.]
Butch was also able to touch on his dad, the late great actor Mark Gil.
Hinayang na hinayang si Sid na never niyang nakasama sa isang film project ang kanyang ama. Hindi manlang naka-isa. Maski kami, nanghihinayang doon. What an artistic feast sana. Kung maibabalik lang daw ang panahon, he would have wanted to tell his dad: “Dad, we have a movie together.”
Sadly, it’s not gonna happen.
What he can only do now, is to continue his acting legacy and make him proud.
And we’re quite sure he’s delivering that.
But what’s more sure is this: we know that dad is indeed proud of this son.
